Arbor Day Celebration at MCC

Come join us for MCC’s Arbor Day on April 14, 2011!

This modest celebration recognizes our college’s efforts in protecting our rich legacy of trees across the campus. We also wish to recognize one of our greats, Joe Zajicek, for 45 years of service to MCC by planting a new tree in his honor on the campus. Fittingly, this tree commemorates a long history of teaching excellence while also representing the new growth of our “green” buildings by growing between our new Science and new Health Science buildings.

Arbor Day activities include:
  • Events start with a mulching project at 1 PM to protect our existing trees. Anyone interested in helping with this project please meet in front of the new Science building at 1 PM.
  • At 2:15 PM we will hold a special ceremony recognizing Arbor Day and Joe Zajicek’s 45 years of MCC service. Joe will dedicate the burr oak tree planted in his honor. The ceremony will take place in the grove of trees between the new Science and the Health Science buildings.
  • At 3 PM, Janis Jackson, MCC Botany instructor, will conduct one of her lively tours of our campus trees. We encourage all to consider this tour as our campus has a great diversity of trees and plants.
The event is open to all, including students. Help us get the word out and hope to see you there.
